My name is Dylan Guliano. I am known in the diabetic community as Diabetic Dyl Pickle. I am 13 years years old and I have been a Type 1 diabetic for 5 years. My diagnosis story is like so many other diabetics a misdiagnosis from my pediatrician.
I was very sick for a few weeks and my mom kept taking me to my doctor. I lost a lot of weight, my stomach was hurting, I was vomiting, and I was always thirsty. I got to the point where I was too weak to even walk around.
I was suppose to go to meet the teacher night but instead my mom took me to the emergency room. It was there my world changed. They tested my blood sugar right away and it was 590. I hadn't eaten all day. I was less than a few hours away from dying.
I was put in an ambulance and transferred to another hospital. I spent a few days in Pediatric ICU and a few more days in regular hospital room. This is why awareness is so important to me. I almost died because my own pediatrician didn't check my blood sugar.
My favorite GrifGrips shape is the small or medium sport grip. Because I am so active and live in the hot Arizona heat it works the best for me.
Blue November means a lot to me. I feel so many lives could be saved if more people knew the signs and symptoms of Type 1. Education is key to kill the thinking that diabetes is caused by people eating too much sugar.
